New Art Scene Writer For the LA Examiner!

Sorry it’s been awhile since I posted. Normally I would make some comment about how since I get like 1 hit a day, like, who cares, but I just checked my hits for yesterday and today I’ve been getting like hundreds of hits over the weekend. Is that a computer error? Iono. I hope it’s not because that’s pretty cool. Anywho, The reason I haven’t posted in a while is actually not due to laziness this time. I recently got a position at the Examiner as the art scene editor and I have been working really hard at that. I’ve already have three posts up. I have lot of big plans with that position so stay tuned for more announcements on that.

    New Shows!

It’s been too long since I’ve done some art shows so I got myself in some shows. Check the upcoming shows sidebr for more details.

    Celestials
These are the Celestials. They are big. My news is big. It’s not as big as the Celestials, but I like the Celestials so I’m putting a picture of them up here.

Sorry I haven’t been able to post in a lil bit. Nobody is reading this. Who am I apologizing to? Nobody I suppose. I like to pretend I have an audience. It’s what I do so I don’t feel so aloooooooone. :( Anywho, like the title says, there is some big news coming up and that is why I have been too busy to post my usual random silliness. Stay Tuned!

    Unfinished Painting of Charles Mingus

I am in need of a 5′x3′ frame for a new painting so I was planning on stripping this unfinished painting of Charles Mingus, but it’s really not that bad, so I’m thinking maybe I should just finish it. What do you think? Finish or not finish?

My name is Terry Kim and I’m a 26 year old artist from Orange County, California. I’m a self taught artist with a pretty natural ability in realism, which is somewhat ironic since I’ve never been a huge fan of realism or anything. My personal tastes have always leaned more towards abstract or graphic designy artists like Miro, Klimt, Mondrian, or Rothko. I’ve always liked drawing and painting people realistically however, so my aesthetic naturally evolved to be a mix of those two tastes.

In the last few years I have become super obsessed with basketball; particularly with motion offenses such as the Triangle Offense, SSOL, or the Princeton Offense. I don’t really know how these offenses work because they are pretty dense and complicated and I’m dumb, but the basic idea is that, when run properly, they automatically create plays and scoring opportunities. I’ve since adopted this ideology into how I create my paintings by trying to create complex systems that will yield what I call “instant style.” This isn’t a real unique concept, since I’m sure everybody is creating their own systems for painting, but I think mine are unique because, like the afore mentioned basketball systems, I try to make mine as dense and Baroque as possible.

I’ve been painting for about 6 years and starting showing in the LA and Orange County area for about four years (since around 2006.) In that time I’ve appeared in around 50 or so shows. I am currently working on a book and my six pack.
